El Capitan poster
In 1996, after many attempts trying to draw El Cap, I completed my first massive 26″ x 37″ climbing map of El Capitan. An map detail tried to illustrate the complexities of the southeast face. Several of these out-of-print posters are still available by special request.
In 2000, I reprinted the original El Cap poster but with a new format and history developed to match the Half Dome poster. The right map detail was discarded and replaced by a separate map drawn especially for modern aid climbers: The Southeast Select.
This original El Capitan climbing map, however, remains my most popular poster. This poster details over 70 routes and is designed as a comprehensive historic overview of the face. Routes are categorized by color into both primary and modern routes. The ratings reflect the routes’ original difficulty in order to document the overall progression of route development.
